S-LCD’s first fab is a G7 with 1870 x 2200mm motherglass glass substrate dimensions are have been busy manufacturing 40″ LCD TV panels that are being integrated into Samsung and Sony’s 40″ LCD TV offerings.
The two companies stated that they will invest US$2 billion in the G8 fab. Mass production will start in the fall of 2007 with a glass substrate capacity of 50,000 per month. The G8 will most likely focus on 50″ or larger LCD TV panels, particularly 55″. In the 40″ range, S-LCD might produce 47″, a size LG.Philips LCD has pinpointed as one of its “standard” sizes.
