Samsung‘s LN19A650 is a very nicely designed 19″ wide LCD TV. The Touch Of Color (TOC) design theme is carried over from much larger and more expensive models. The LN19A650 must be the most expensive-looking 19″ wide LCD TV on the market. The dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000:1 should generate some good pictures too!
Now for the bad stuff. There are a few. First, the viewing angle is limited to 170/160, which means the LN19A650 has a TN LCD panel inside. Just make sure you sit right in front of it to get the best view. Second, what is a pixel format of 1440 x 900 doing on a LCD TV? It’s not 1280 x 720. It’s not 1920 x 1080. It’s not even the funky 1366 x 768. 1440 x 900?!? Now, this tells me they just pulled a 19″ LCD monitor panel and stuck it into a TOC chassis. Not so good; actually, bad. The 8ms response time isn’t going to help you with motion blur either.
If you’re space-limited, budget-limited and need to find a TV that can work as a monitor, the LN19A650 might just be the dual-purpose display you’ve been looking for. The $479.99 MSRP might sound high, but think of it this way: you’re getting a LCD TV and a LCD monitor!
