On June 5, 2008, Sony introduced its XBR7 and XBR8 series LCD TVs and updated its XBR6 series. The KDL-55XBR8 is a 55″ LCD TV sporting a lot of goodies including a 1920 x 1080 pixel format, the new and improved BRAVIA Engine 2 PRO, Advanced Contrast Enhancer PRO (ACE PRO) that makes use of the TRILUMINOS RGB LED backlight‘s local dimming capability to improve contrast ratio and a host of other features. The 120Hz Motionflow should virtually eliminate motion blur. The vertically floating speakers on each end looks pretty nice and I am sure the picture quality will rock.

Gizmodo put up some pictures comparing Sony’s XBR8 versus a un-named popular plasma set. I’m pretty sure it’s wasn’t the KURO G9, since the blacks on those puppies are as black as they come as if there’s nothing there. As you can see in the picture, the XBR8 LCD TV does a fantastic job of keeping black levels extremely black!
