LG 47LG90: 47

LG‘s 47LG90 is a 47″ LCD TV that sports a teardrop design and has a hint of blue color accents. This is quite interesting since Samsung‘s color, if there was an official color, would be blue. On the other hand, LG’s would be red. But Samsung came out with its Touch of Color with red accents (there are ones with blue accents) and LG has blue accents. Externally, the 47LG90 looks to be a beaut.

The 47LG90 has a 47″ LCD panel with a LED backlight. With a LED backlight not only do you get power savings, you get incredible dynamic contrast ratios of 1,000,000:1 thanks to local dimming. This level of dynamic contrast matches those from Samsung’s newly introduced Series 9 LCD TVs and Series 7 Plasma TVs. Local dimming is a technology that reduces the brightness of the backlight depending on the content of the image. So in dark areas, the LEDs are throttled down. In bright areas the LEDs are working hard. The result? A wonderfully contrasty screen that looks really great. The 47LG90 has other tricks to generate great images.

Motion blur is a problem that we would like to see go away and LG has done something about that with its 120Hz TruMotion technology. The frequency is doubled from 60Hz to 120Hz and taking full advantage of the increased frequency, TruMotion creates a new frame based on the previous and next frames and inserts it in between leading to an even smoother motion picture, a process some call motion interpolation. The 47LG90 has a lot of other technologies and the bottomline is that its performance will be right with the top contenders.
