Sony is confusing me. The company has the KDL-55X4500, the KDL-55XBR8, and now the KDL-55XR1. If I want the best one, which one should I get? I’m not sure actually. The KDL-55XR1 is the latest from Sony and is a 55″ LCD TV with its signature TRILUMINOS backlight technology that incorporates RGB LEDs. Different from white LEDs, the RGB LEDs significantly enhance the color gamut to show colors that you haven’t seen in mere standard displays. LED backlights (white and RGB) allows for local dimming that improves the dynamic contrast ratio by a large margin. The KDL-55XR1’s dynamic contrast ratio is 1,000,000:1 while the static CR is 3000:1. Like most large LCD TVs these days the KDL-55XR1 sports a pixel format of 1920 x 1080 that can take 1080p video sources. Video sources are enhanced by Sony’s BRAVIA Engine 2 PRO.
I don’t know if this is the perfect analogy, but like GM company’s myriad of choices in brands (Pontiac, GMC, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Saturn, Hummer, Buick, Saab), the increasing sub-branding by Sony is getting to be quite tricky to figure out. Question: What is the difference between Pontiac cars and Saturn cars and Chevrolet cars?
