On October 20, 2008, ASUS launched the VK266H. Unlike the model name, the VK226H sports a 25.5″ TFT LCD. The 25.5″ LCD features a pixel format of 1920 x 1200, 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and a 2ms GTG response time. The fast response time suggests the VK226H is using a TN LCD so the viewing angles won’t be all that great. That said, folks who like fast response times are usually those who like to play games and usually their heads are planted right in the center of the screen so viewing angles don’t matter that much.
The dynamic contrast ratio of 20,000:1 is nice, but it seems to me that dynamic contrast ratio doesn’t translate into much unless you have a LED backlight that enables local dimming. The one-two punch technology combo would be great for anyone using a LCD monitor to play hardcore games or watch fast-moving HD content. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard of a LCD monitor featuring a LED backlight and local dimming. Back to ASUS, there is also the VW226H that is identical to the VK226H except for the webcam.
