Acer‘s P203Wd is 20″ wide LCD monitor. Haven’t seen a 20″ wide LCD monitor in a long time. Most have shifted slightly smaller to 19″ wide or a bit bigger to 22″ wide. The P203Wd sports a 6-bit TN (Twisted Nematic) TFT LCD featuring a 1680 x 1050 pixel format, a relatively fast 5ms response time, a slightly limited viewing angles of 160/160 and a brightness of 300 cd/m2. The 6-bit TN just means that it is more affordable, a bit fast (response time) and a bit limited in viewing angles. The 6-bit portion also makes it more affordable than 8-bit and uses smart algorithms to generate close-enough colors to 8-bit. 8-bit LCDs generate 16 million colors. 6-bit LCDs with FRC (Frame Rate Control), which is a fancy term for dithering, to get the number of colors close to 16 million. If you need high color fidelity and wide viewing angles you should look into LCD monitors that sport 8-bit LCD panels that use either IPS or PVA technology.
The 20″ wide monitor from Acer has two connection options: VGA and DVI-D with HDCP. The largish buttons are slightly off to the right from center and the base seem to be quite sturdy. Acer’s P203Wd features a disappearing size but I still like the 20″ size and for those that are interested in a decent, no thrills, get-down-to-work monitor this one seems to fit the bill.
