ASUS has gone all sexy with its Eee PC 1008HA that was unveiled at the CeBIT show. Engadget is praising the Eee PC 1008HA for it gorgeous and thin design: “ASUS engineered this one for fashionistas…” Not much technical specs are known for the 1008HA but a few things are clear: 10″ LCD, has a lot of wireless connectivity including 3G and WiMAX, is just 1″ thick (probably at the thickest part–the back) and weighs just 2.4lbs. I would have thought it would be a bit thinner than 1″ since it is just a 10″ netbook. The keyboard is 92% standard-size, which is a good thing since a lot of netbook users are complaining of pain in the wrist after typing a while.
Apple has started a trend with the MacBook Air and the 17″ MacBook Pro that will probably gain more traction: a sealed battery. There are benefits: a sealed battery allows for a slightly bigger battery leading to longer battery life. From a design point of view it seems you can get a thinner profile if the battery is sealed–based on an Apple video the reason is that you don’t need to design a case around the battery and the cage in the notebook PC to house the battery in addition to mechanisms that unlock/lock the battery, etc. The bad is that when the battery is depleted you can’t take it out and stick in another. ASUS’ Eee PC 1008HA is being reported to have a sealed battery.
