Mitsubishi showcased a 3D touch panel that detects the distance between a finger and the touch panel via an array of sensors at the Interaction 2009 conference that is being held in Tokyo from March 5 to 6. The sensors can also detect the speed at which the finger is approaching. It will also allow your finger to control a cursor without actually touching the display. The 3D touch panel is 5.7″ features a 640 x 480 pixel format and uses a capacitive touch technology. The prototype 3D touch panel is based on panels that are already available in the market and so bringing this concept to commercial production won’t be too much of stretch.
