Intel’s Health Guide PHS6000 is geared toward healthcare professionals who manage patients with long-term / chronic conditions. The Health Guide enables communications between patients and healthcare professionals; it also provides critical patient data. The goal is to help patients to take a more active and positive role in their own care.

Two-way Video Calls The Health Guide includes an integrated video camera allowing the patient and healthcare professional to conduct two-way video calls. Not only can this strengthen the interaction between the patient by visually giving them advice and encouragement, it also allows the healthcare professional to visually observe the patient and the patient’s ability to performance specific tasks. The camera’s ‘resolution’ is VGA or in terms of pixel format 640 x 480. The display is a 10.4″ LCD.

The Health Guide engages the patient with Interactive Patient Health Sessions that is personalized for the patient’s specific situation. Some activities may include vital signs measurement, answering health assessment questions, etc. These sessions are designed and scheduled by the patient’s healthcare professional.

Wired and Wireless Vital Sign Monitoring The Health Guide can connect to a variety of wired and wireless vital sign monitoring devices such as blood pressure monitors, glucose meters, pulse oximeters, peak flow meters, weight scales, etc. There are four USB 2.0 ports for wired connections and Bluetooth 2.0 for wireless.

G.E. and Intel Partner to Provide Home Health Care On April 2, 2009 G.E. and Intel announced that they are partnering on R&D of health technologies that allow healthcare professionals to “remotely monitor, diagnose and consult with patients in their homes or assisted-living residences.” Both companies will invest US$250 million in the next five years for this effort. G.E. agreed to distribute Intel’s Health Guide PHS6000 through its worldwide sales force under the agreement.
