16 Speakers Mitsubishi’s top-of-the-line Unisen series is the 259 Diamond LCD TVs. They come in just two sizes: 46″ and 52″. The most unique feature is the speaker system, which integrates 16 speakers in an audio bar located beneath the LCD. The 16 speakers are intelligent too: it directs “perfectly balanced audio waves beside and behind the user to reproduce 5.1 surround sound”. For those that don’t feel like lugging 6 or 7 speakers, wiring them all, and then fine-tuning them might want to check this out.
90% Color Gamut The LCD is no slouch either with a 1920 x 1080 pixel format and a motion blur-busting 120Hz frequency. The press release states a wide color gamut backlight that provides a color gamut that is 25% better than typical LCD TVs. Since typical LCD TVs have a 72% NTSC color gamut, upping that by 25% yields 90%. Not bad. Whether the Unisen models use a backlight based on LED or CCFL is not clear. But the thickness of the units at less than 1″ seems to suggest that the backlight is LED. Just a guess.
