The Nikon D5000. There has been a lot of anticipation for this digital SLR. Nikon Europe announced this compact D-SLR on April 14, 2009. One of the unique features of the D5000 is the ‘vari-angle’ LCD that you can flip under. The 2.7″ TFT LCD has about 230,000 pixels and gives you liveview, just like in your compact digital cameras.
Another cool feature is the ability to take HD movies. It’s not 1080p like Canon’s 5D Mark II, but you do get 1280 x 720 at 24fps. Of course, as a camera you get a 12.MP Nikon DX-format-sized CMOS sensor that takes pictures with a pixel format of 4288 x 2848 in L mode.
You can get the full specifications and a preview of the D5000 at Digital Photography Review. All three pictures came from DPReview. Now, there is good news for those who have been holding their breaths for the D5000 to become available. You can let out your breath, but just a little bit. Amazon has the D5000 for pre-order for $849.95 including a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-S DX NIKKOR lens.
