Sharp‘s G10 (10th Generation) TFT LCD fabrication plant located in Sakai, Japan is the world’s largest, but yields at the fab have been lower-than-expected. LCD panel production commenced on October 1 and originally planned for monthly LCD glass substrate input capacity to reach 36,000 by the end of 2009. At the current rate it might be difficult to reach more than 25,000 to 30,000. The exact yields are unknown but the lower-than-expected yields should allay concerns of an oversupply situation in the fourth quarter of 2009.
