Laptop has discovered that with a netbook running Windows 7 you get on average about 47 minutes less battery life compared to Windows XP. If you’re using an ASUS Eee PC 1008HA with Windows 7 battery life drops by 57 minutes compared to the older XP. Liliputing came to a similar conclusion as did jkOnTheRun. Even Snow Leopard beats Windows 7.
Laptop tested a Toshiba NB205 netbook, an ASUS Eee PC 1008HA and a HP Mini 311 using its LAPTOP Battery Test where the netbooks were continously surfing the Internet via WiFi. The Toshiba ran 33 minutes longer on XP. The ASUS ran 57 minutes longer on XP. And the HP ran 51 minutes longer on XP.
jkOnTheRun used Battery Eater on a Toshiba NB205 netbook dual-booting XP and 7. LCD brightness was set at 40%, WiFi was turned on, and all power management was disabled. Results? XP ran for 5:50. Windows 7 ran for 5:15.
liliputing ran Battery Eater Pro on an ASUS Eee PC 1008HA. Results? The XP model ran for an hour longer than the Windows 7 model.
As for Snow Leopard, CNET took a 2008 MacBook Pro and ran Windows 7 64-bit and Snow Leopard. The result? Snow Leopard ran 34 minutes longer.
