GPU Accelerated Browsers

To improve the performance of browsers companies are building versions that take advantage of the GPU. Microsoft plans to shift graphics and text rendering duties from the CPU to the GPU with Internet Explorer 9. Mozilla will do the same with FireFox using Direct2D and DirectWrite, the same tools Microsoft will be using. Not surprisingly Google is on the same bandwagon with its Chrome browser. With this development the Internet can provide even richer experiences and I expect the first application to fully take advantage of GPU-accelerated browsing will most likely be online gaming.
