Ian Cutress, AnandTech:
The ‘5K’ name comes from the 5120 pixels horizontally, but this panel screams as being two lots of 2560×2880 via MST.
According to Wikipedia, MST stands for Multi-Stream Transport that enables “multiple monitors to be used via a single DisplayPort connector.†Cutress is conjecturing the 27-inch 5120×2880 5K UltraSharp monitor will use MST technology, and require two DisplayPort connections to drive it. Fourteen point seven million pixels. Nice. Availability is expected for around Christmas with a price of US$2500.
